Will Apple support USB Type-C? Will the mobile phone port be unified? Part 1
Recently, from the news of analog IC suppliers, Apple may abandon the Lightning port in 2019, Apple is redesigning the charger and the next-generation related interface, iPhone and iPad will support USB Type-C (referred to as: USB-C).

It is reported that LeTV is the first manufacturer equipped with Type-C interface on mobile phones, and then Android mobile phone manufacturers have joined the Type-C camp, LG, Xiaomi, Samsung, Huawei, Meizu and so on. In the industry's view, the port of USBPD and Type-C integration is expected to bring a revolution in mobile phone ports, and the fast charging standard is expected to be unified. Apple, which has always been "maverick", can confirm this point if it chooses the USB Type-C port solution.

For the mobile phone interface, Apple has been making changes. The first generation of the iPhone used a 30-pin interface, and the iPhone 5 became a node that turned to Lightning. The 30-pin usage cycle is 6 years. If the new iPhone of this year still uses the Lightning interface, the Lightning interface has been used in Apple's products for 7 years. From a time perspective, it is possible for Apple to usher in a USB-C change in 2019.

At the same time, from a standard point of view, the European Parliament will adopt a universal charger draft in early June this year, requiring radio equipment sold in the EU to impose a uniform standard charger. In the next 3 years, the mobile device charging interface will be unified into the USB type c cable specification, which has been supported by 7 major manufacturers including Apple and Samsung.

A major factor driving the USB-C unified mobile phone port is the fast charging demand.
USB Type-C is an electronic device interface standard that is an upgraded version of USB Type-A/B. The highlights are a slimmer design, faster transfer speeds (up to 10Gbps), greater power transfer (up to 100W), and support for double-sided insertion. Although USB Type-C is based on USB 3.1 design, this does not mean that devices using USB-C ports must support the USB 3.1 standard.
